Shimano Stimula

shimano stimula fishing rod
The Shimano Stimula gets the job done for a low, low price.

You’re looking for a rod that’s dirt-cheap but gets the job done just fine for tasks like multi-species freshwater fishing and light-duty bottom fishing in the Bay? Check out the Shimano Stimula. We’ve been fishing a 6’6” two-piece fast-action medium-light weight STS66ML2C for a year now, and while it may not be the fanciest nor the most sensitive rod on the rack, it works perfectly well and has held up to use in the brine. They have cork handles, aluminum-oxide guides, range from 5’6” to 7’0”, and the price is absolutely right. We note that while they’re labeled “fast action” our test rod had a good bit of bend in the tip and some might say it’s closer to medium-fast. Price: $29.99 for a serviceable stick that helps you save at the same time.
