Way North & Delaware Fishing Report 1/25/2018 Update:
Despite rivers thawing within the past week as the Delmarva area has finally been experiencing some warmer weather, our sources reported that boats that have been out on the water haven't been having much luck. Herb's reported that some crappie are hanging near the spillways, however the days have been very hit-or-miss. Little jigs and GULP lure are what most guys braving the cold have been using.
With the ice clearing out and the predicted warm spell, the usual winter yellow perch hot-spots like Perryville, Lapidum, and Port Deposit should become productive at any time. Way North & Delaware Fishing Report 1/19/2018 Update:
Freezing weather has made it difficult to get out on the water the past few weeks. Herb's and Captain Bone's reported that the determined angler looking for a fresh fish dinner should head west in search of good ice fishing, as many reports of yellow perch, walleye, and pickerel have come in from those fishing the lakes and on the ice. Way North & Delaware Fishing Report 1/12/2018 Update:
We tried folks, but gathered very little intel for the area this week. This doesn’t come as a huge surprise considering the bitter cold weather over last weekend. We do have a bit of a warming trend in the making, but we also have rain and it looks like wind on top of that (up to 20 knots in some areas) at least for Saturday, so this weekend may be a bust for all but the hardiest of anglers among us.
Captain Bones Bait & Tackle did say that crappie seem to be around where and when you can get to open water (the spillways are a good bet), and people have been catching them with small jig and little plastics. Little GULP!s seems to work well.
Chain Pickerel are always a good option and stay active at this time of year so anywhere you can find open water or chop through the ice you have a shot at them. Trout stocking has begun and the bite should get better as we move into February, too.
Way North & Delaware Fishing Report 1/5/2018 Update:
Welcome to the new year, anglers, and the first Way North and Delaware Fishing Report of 2018! Unfortunately, the year seems to have started off with rather exceedingly cold weather and tough conditions that have made getting out on the water near impossible for anglers. Herb's hasn't had any reports of fish being caught in the bay or throughout local rivers.
Perch should be at Perryville right now if history is any indication, but last we heard moving ice was an issue and we don’t have any reports from the past couple of days to relay the current conditions there with any accuracy. Truth be told the conditions Saturday (a high of 21 and wind of 20 mph – yikes!!) won’t allow for fishing, anyway. Sunday may be a different story and the weather through the middle of next week looks fish-able, but the best bet after this deep freeze will probably be ice fishing. Remember: three inches of good black ice is considered a bare minimum, and four inches is completely safe. Despite the shockingly low temps we’ve been experiencing the wind, moving water, and even flocks of geese can be responsible for keeping certain sections of water from freezing or can result in thin ice – you need to be exceptionally careful when attempting to ice fish in our region.
